PHOTO: Billy Jack's owner John Hart with opening crew
Just a block west of the Lauderdale By The Sea town square is the new Billy Jack’s , a very casual laid back atmosphere awaits with voluminous relics and rustic décor of decades past adorning the walls. Intermixed with the best of the new they host craft beers, TV monitors a spacious patio and really good food at very friendly prices—that includes the drink prices. With an unannounced opening Billy Jack’s has become a destination for the locals within its first week with numerous making the trek nightly to check out the exciting fresh vibe and partake in conversations with the neighbors. Boasting a capacity around 100 inside and out, the outgoing staff is serving expeditiously like a crew of seasoned professionals. On my visits it was also notable that the cordial man greeting customers was one of the owners John Hart. He was in full operation mode providing a heartfelt welcome and listening to customer’s feedback among assisting staff. Billy Jack’s position’s Lauderdale By The Sea as a more notable entertainment destination from miles away alongside the other areas great venues. On this evening a group from Las Olas was enjoying their evening conveying they’ll be back on the weekend with their friends.
With Classic Rock music providing a sound back drop, this old roadhouse shack atmosphere is attracting the town notables to come out as well. The difference with operations that have not survived in this area is that Billy Jack’s is holding their customers beyond a quick bite or brew. It’s the kinda place where you can spend hours and enjoy the days gone atmosphere in a time warp feel. Yet the future is inevitable where Billy Jack’s will make its greatest mark by simply keeping the customer satisfied in this easy going atmosphere where good times come easy.

The south corner of the beach side Lauderdale-By-The-Sea square received a major upgrade both visually and as an attraction in all facets recently. Fulfilling a long ambition of owner Ray Chehata, to own a restaurant close to the ocean where his family and friends could gather and enjoy drinks and a good meal. Ray voices, “the concept is to provide a northern home style BBQ with sports events on the TV like it would be at home.” Ray arrived here about a decade ago from Canada and took a liking to the area that he has now made it his home. The stylish restaurant also has a notable chef providing quality offerings that include some health conscious choices. The stylish establishment is well designed with a wrap around bar that is fully opened to the street with tables along the wall. There is table seating for 60+ on the street patio where nightly entertainment from various fine entertainers make this a destination for music too. What's in the name—Station 44? Ray sites that 4 has been his lucky number and ironically showing up unexpectedly and frequently beyond imagination. Its also a numeral his favorite hockey players Bobby Orr and Jean Beliveau and baseball great Reggie Jackson. The menu reflects the numeral throughout as well as the extended daily Happy Hour that begins at 3:44 and ends at 7:44pm. Those 44 minutes adds some extra happiness to customers as well. Ray does a lot of that greeting tables and providing a warm hello with an ear for customer comments. Website: station44barbq.com

Art Stroll 2018 Dates: June 21, July 19, August 23, September 20.
Open Everyday: Regarded as America's foremost underwater photographer, Gug has been making waves in the art scene for well over a decade. His real name is Christopher Guglielmo, but no one has the time to figure out the proper pronunciation so "Gug" (pronounced "Goog") has stuck since grade school. And since grade school, he has spent tens of thousands of hours creating marine life images that awe, inspire and sometimes confuse.
With no formal photography education, Gug felt that total immersion into his subject matter was the only way to master the art, and moved to the Caribbean to live on a boat where he could dive and shoot every day for seven years. After a year back in the USA where he exhibited his portfolio, he again took off, craving more exotic subject matter, and landed in Papua New Guinea, where he again lived on a boat, for two years shooting underwater every day. Gug has now created images in over 40 different countries, been published in numerous magazines, and been displayed in several of the world's most prestigious museums. The result has been that his art is now being collected across the world, and the value of his limited edition photographs has seen a steady increase, making them a worthy investment for any art collector. Mon-Thur: noon-8pm, Friday & Sat:noon-9pm, Sunday: noon-6pm .
